Best Buy starts selling Google Fi SIMs, talk-and-text-only service

With Google Fi now officially open to pretty much any Android and iPhone from the past year or two — and, as always, unofficially to quite a few others — it may have been about time to give the virtual carrier an actual ground game.

The company has announced through its help forums that Google Fi SIM cards will be available at more than 500 Best Buy stores in the United States. They cost $9.99 apiece, but include a $10 credit on a customer’s first bill when they activate a device.

If you’re curious about what unlocked phone to get and which ones will be able to take full advantage of Fi’s network features, take a look at this story.

Best Buy will sell full-service Fi SIMs as well as SIMs for talk and text service only for $20 per month.

During life as “Project Fi,” customers could only get service through a physical SIM card or through eSIM by purchasing a Google Pixel phone online through its website. Marketing was very limited for its first couple of years until devices from other OEMs started getting onto the network.
