LG have been flagging behind in the smartphone industry for some time now and to be honest, it looks like this is set to continue with the LG G8.
The phone is set to launch at MWC 2019 with the official announcement event on the 24th of Feb. This year is set to be one of the most important years for manufactures in a long time with the launch of 5G and foldable phones. It appears all the big names have one or the other coming out, with the exception of LG.
The biggest issue I think LG faces is their pricing which was leaked a few days ago at around $900/£700 which if true is a $100 price hike over the last generation.
The main selling point they appear to be pushing is a new gesture control thanks to a time of flight sensor on the front. It is also believed that the phone will support an optional second screen.
Most recently Evan Blass/evleaks leaked full images of the phone confirming its design and the inclusion of a notch. While it is not ugly it does seem a little dated in terms of features compared to other companies, there is a fingerprint sensor on the year, a full sized notch and two rear cameras.
The internals of the phone will be standard for a 2019 flagship device, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage.
I was a huge fan of the LG V20, so while the above doesn’t sound overly positive I do hope LG pull something out of the bag and make a come back.
