Redmi Note 8 will feature new MediaTek Helio G90T gaming chipset

The MediaTek Helio G90 & G90T was announced at the end of last month and is a new range of chips from MediaTek with a focus on gaming.

The new Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro have now been confirmed to feature the new gaming-focused Helio G90T chipset.

While this chipset is their most powerful to date, it is not comparable to flagship chipsets such as the Snapdragon 855 but instead, is similar in specification to the Snapdragon 730 and Kirin 810. Initial performance figures show it offers some impressive performance compared to the competing chipsets.

The Note 8 Pro will come with a quad-camera setup headlined by the 64MP Samsung ISOCELL GW1 sensor making it the first phone to use this new sensor. The regular Note 8 will likely opt for a 48MP shooter instead. In addition, both phones are expected to come with a fingerprint reader on the back and will support NFC connectivity – a first for the Redmi Note line.

On top of this, the company is claiming the phones will offer 25x zoom with hair level clarity. This will obviously be digital zoom, though some form of hybrid zoom will play a part of it.

The company further says that the 64MP camera will take pictures having a resolution of 9248×6936 pixels, which is 25x the resolution of Full-HD, 7.7x higher than 4K, and 2x higher than 8K resolutions.

Redmi Brand Director Lu Weibing also revealed that the Note 8 line will come with better battery life and a higher screen to body ratio.
