Realme are one of the new mobile phone companies originating from China. The brand was established in 2018, but was originally a subbrand of OPPO. Over the years they have done exceptionally well in the Asian markets, in particular, India, and they are now wanting to make their mark in Europe.
They already had a soft launch in the UK back in May with the Realme 3 Pro which well a well-specced Snapdragon 710 based phone for just £175. They are now planning a formal launch in Madrid next month.
It has been reported several times that they are developing a Snapdragon 855 phone, it was expected that the Realme X Pro would be the first phone to feature this, which has a model number of RMX1901. However, since then the Realme X2 was announced in September that has a model number of RMX1991.
Two new Realme phones with model numbers RMX1931 and RMX1993 have been spotted on Bluetooth SIG database. The specifications of the RMX1993 are not mentioned in the listing. However, the listing has key details on the specs of the Realme RMX1931 phone which appears to be the first Snapdragon 855 powered smartphone from the company.
The RMX1993 has also popped up at the Wi-Fi Alliance, this doesn’t add many details to the specification, but it does help confirm the existence on th phone and the likelihood it is launching soon.
The Realme RMX1931 features a 6.55-inch display with FHD+ resolution and will be powered by an octa-core CPU clocked at 2.84 GHz. This falls in line with the Kryo 485 Gold core frequency in the Snapdragon 855.
For the battery, this is listed as 1,950 mAh which could be a listing error, but it does say cells, so it is possible there are two of them. The XT uses VOOC Flash Charge 3.0, which is an Oppo technology, the Oppo RX17 Pro used SuperVOOC Flash, but this actually had two 1850mAh cells giving it 3700mAh. Oppo has just announced 65W SuperVOOC as well as VOOC 4.0, so there is a good chance the new phone will use one of these and a duel cell layout for 3900mAh/4000mAh.
The phone will be running ColorOS 6.1, which is the same OS you will find on the Oppo Reno2 and is based on Android 9.0 (Pie).
Not much else is known about the phone, assuming it is related to the X2, it will likely keep many of the same specs, which is already an amazingly specced phone for the price.
The Realme X2 has a 6.4-inch AMOLED full HD+ display with waterdrop notch. The Snapdragon 730G powers the phone with 8 GB of RAM. It has an internal storage of 128 GB and has a microSD slot for more storage. It has a front-facing camera of 32-megapixel. The rear side of the phone has a 64-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual camera setup. The smartphone houses a 4,00mAh battery that supports 30W rapid charging.
Importantly, for Europe, the Realme X2 has NFC allowing Google Pay, so an upgraded model of this makes sense to launch in Europe.
Now the big question is the price. There is no clue about this, but Realme offer some of the best-valued phones on the market. Immediate comparisons are going to be made with the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro, otherwise known as the Redmi K20 Pro, which saw its EU launch in Spain. Current EU pricing is 388-Euros, and it is also available in the UK via Amazon for £360. So I would expect pricing around this, and ideally lower, making it the cheapest Snapdragon 855 phone on the market.
